Our carbon promise
We truly understand the importance of working to reduce the impact we have on the environment, which is why our involvement with the Carbon Trust has been so invaluable. They were set up by the government in 2001 and are an independent organisation helping businesses and the public to move towards a low carbon economy by reducing carbon emissions.
We have been involved with the Carbon Trust for some time and are proud to be a part of the Carbon Reduction Label initiative. Through the work completed so far and with our plans for the future the Carbon Trust recognise the changes we are making and we are the first bread brand to have their endorsement which can be seen across all of our 800g Kingsmill Great Everyday White, Kingsmill Tasty Wholemeal and Kingsmill 50/50 packs.
Kingsmill is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. Through our continued work with the Carbon Trust they are helping us to make real changes, which help us to deliver our promise to find ways to reduce carbon emissions over the coming years.
We are dedicated to fully understanding our carbon footprint so we can identify areas where we can improve and then work towards reducing the effect we have on the environment.
We are starting to make changes and have lots more planned...
We have started replacing our older, less efficient ovens with new ones, which will reduce our carbon footprint considerably when baking our fresh tasty loaves by over 20%
We are taking steps to reduce the amount of electricity we use in bakeries, from changing to energy efficient lighting to reducing the amount of compressed air we use
We are investing in more fuel efficient lorries and using diesel additives which produce fewer emissions
We're making more of our loaves locally - over the last two years this change has saved our trucks from driving an extra 900,000 miles
In the supply chain, Kingsmill has worked with its flour supplier to deliver more flour by rail. We now use rail transport instead of lorries to deliver flour to our bakeries in Glasgow and Cardiff reducing our road travel by 500,000 miles per year!
