Why bread is good for you

Everybody knows that bread is a vital part of a healthy balanced diet. But just what is it in your daily loaf that makes it good for you? All bread contains protein, complex carbohydrates, calcium, iron and B vitamins. Bread is a major source of fibre in our diet, has very little fat and virtually no sugar.

B-Vitamins...
play an essential role in the way our bodies breakdown food and release energy. There are many different kinds of B vitamins and you'll find many of them in bread, in particular Thiamin (vitamin B1) and Niacin (vitamin B3).

Minerals...
are essential nutrients that are needed in tiny amounts and have many roles within the body. Minerals such as calcium and iron can be found in varying amounts in a variety of foods. Bread provides a significant amount of our daily intake of calcium and iron, with calcium being good for teeth and bones, and iron for helping the blood transport oxygen around the body.

Fibre...
is provided by the outer protective layer of the wheat grain and plays an invaluable role in the healthy and efficient digestion of food. Although there is a higher proportion of fibre in whole grain breads, white bread also contains fibre which helps play an important role in our digestive system.
