Delicious + Nutritious = Oatilicious
Most people know that eating porridge for breakfast is a good nutritious start to the day, but what is it that is in oats that makes them so good for us?
Over to you...
Here's where we ask for your thoughts on a matter that's been the subject of much debate recently. We'll also share our thoughts if we think we can help too!
Matthew asks: “Is it better to store your bread in the fridge or in a bread bin during the hot summer months?”
Our favourite answers...
I keep mine in the fridge - cold slices with cold spread, cold ham and lettuce, tomato and cucumber, a really refreshing snack in the warm weather. And the bread stays fresher longer!
JimThe Kingsmill wrapper IS your bread bin. Keep the bread securly wrapped and stored away from heat , humidity and strong light and your bread should be OK. My Kingsmill 50/50 Medium gets used up well before the 'use by date' so I buy extra and store it in the freezer - it keeps well.
AlanI store my bread in the bread bin but put half in the freezer so that if it's hot I don't waste the whole loaf!
JuliaYou should keep it in a bread bin,you could always feeze some of the slices so it doesn't get wasted .
AmandaMy sister keeps hers in a bread crock, my mother kept hers in the fridge. Neither of them had any problems so I don't think it matters. Mine lives on top of the fridge as space is short.
EiDefinitely keep bread in a bread bin. In the fridge it goes hard v quickly and doesnt taste as good. Mind you, my bread doesn't hang around for long - the kids love it when they get in from school!
AngelaKeep the bread in a cool dark pantry stays fresh and not too hard so the butter spreads easily, therfore not tearing the bread
StuartWe don't really have a storage problem - we eat our Kingsmill so fast that it doesn't have time to go stale!
ShielaI freeze the bread taking out what I need for a day and possibly a half in the morning. I keep it in a bread bin and is thawed by lunch time. I admit to being a bit organised !!
DeenaIf its for Toast I keep my bread in the Freezer and take out individual slices on a daily basis. That way you can be sure that the bread lasts longer and has a fresher toasty taste even after 1 week. If its normal day to day for sandwiches I keep in cupboard ( away from the oven/cooker area) solely reserved for rolls and bread.
JanisI find it definitly better to keep in the fridge and have done for years since then I have never had mouldy bread, and it keeps fresh.
EdwardWe always get 3 loaves (oatilicious) and put 2 in the fridge, it keeps perfectly for a good week and doesn't lose any of the flavour.
PeterIf there is only going to be me eating the bread in the week I tend to freeze the whole loaf and take out what I need at the beginning of the day so it is as fresh as when I bought it!
PamI was taught putting bread in the fridge makes it go stale quicker.Something to do with the gluten.
GordonI do what the french do, wrap the loaf in a linen tea towel and put it in the bread bin. It not only keeps fresh but you can then eat it at the end of the week, I am 80 and live alone so it lasts that long! The bread can be made crusty again by wrapping the slices in foil and putting them in a hot oven for a few moments or lay on a tray and bake into crisp bread. No waste in this house!
JosephineI say keep bread in a bread bin because the fridge it goes hard v quickly and doesnt taste as good.

We said...
“Bread should ideally be stored in a bread bin - although storing in the fridge can help stop mould growing, the bread will stale much faster at fridge temperatures”
